04.23.04 - Press release from Microsoft

Microsoft Business Solutions announced on April 23, 2004 acquisition of code from Encore Business Solutions Inc. that will enhance our Microsoft® Business Solutions–Great Plains® application to add enhanced accounting functionality for public sector companies in the United States and Canada.

We will extend the Microsoft Great Plains solution to include financial functionality for public sector companies via the code acquisition of the Encore Not-For-Profit suite. We’re introducing two new public sector modules to Microsoft Great Plains 8.0: Grant Management and Encumbrance Management. We’re also enhancing our existing Intercompany, Payables Management and Requisition Management (formerly eRequisition) modules to include additional functionality from the Encore Not-For-Profit suite.

We’ve had a strong relationship with Encore for a number of years, and have licensed its Purchase Order Enhancements and Cash Flow Management modules and integrated them into the Microsoft Great Plains solution. As part of the code acquisition, we also will be acquiring these two modules. The decision to purchase this code is a natural evolution of our working relationship with Encore. We believe this will provide increased revenue opportunity for our partners focusing on the public sector — you now have a more complete and robust solution for prospective customers.

This is further evidence of our commitment to continuing to extend and enhance our existing solutions, making them a safe and attractive option for your public sector customers and prospects today.
